Adult Services

The Adult Education Program is classified as a Behavior Management Day Program. It is designed to serve developmentally disabled individuals with challenging behavioral issues requiring an intensive level of support. The Employment Opportunities Program serves consumers who can benefit from training in community integrated environments with a less intensive staff ratio. Both programs serve adults from 18 to 64 years of age.

Charles is a 24-year old consumer (i.e., adult client) at the Stein Education Center Adult Services in La Mesa . He first came to the Stein Center four years ago after he graduated high school. “I was pretty anxious to get started and to learn new things.” Click here to learn more about Charles.

Each consumer has a behavior management plan designed to increase socially appropriate behaviors that will allow the individual to participate in a program with a lower staff to consumer ratio. The program emphasis is on employment skill development, and community skill training. A minimum of eighty percent of the instructional day is spent in community environments. Referrals are through the San Diego Regional Center and funded by the same agency. Programs are licensed by the Department of Social Services.
